Agroisolab Z scores for sugar addition in honey

We are pleased to announce that Agroisolab has scored highly in comparative results for detection of C4 sugars in honey using the AOAC 998.12 method.

The Z score below shows Agroisolab results compared to several other laboratories – as shown, Agroisolab scored the second closest to the mean score.

The test method measures the ratio of the C12 and C13 isotope ratios in a honey sample, and its associated protein to identify any additional cane sugar (measured as C4) or corn syrups – a common fraud in honey to increase the volume. A 2016 report found that 1.4 out of every 10 samples tested by the European Joint Research Centre contained foreign sugars – research conducted after a report by the European Parliament found that honey was ranked #6 in most faked foods.

Using carbon isotopes to determine the quantity of C4 sugar contained in the honey, Agroisolab can offer tests for detection of sugar addition. We believe our Z scores demonstrate our competency in this test.

If you believe there could be an issue with honey you stock or receive from a supplier, please contact us for more details.
